Since the fourteenth century, the religious institution of the Santissima Annunziata was intended to collect the abandoned children in Naples. She became notorious for his "Ruota" (in
English "wheel") as a wooden drum in which abandoned children were introduced.
Indeed most of 2000-4000 children were spending every year! It was used until June 27, 1875, but the orphanage worked until 1975.

The children abandoned in Santissima ANNUNZIATA of NAPLES
Today, thanks to the cooperation of the Historic Archives of Naples and to the kindness of their administrators, it is possible to you through the Association to obtain a digital copy of the act of deposit of your ancestors in Annunziata.
The procedure is the following one:
-
Fill the
form of mandate and request of consultation. By delegating the consultation of the act to the President of the Association, this last one can make the request in your name and make the digital photography of the act.
- Submit only a single request of act by form and attach it the copy of the marriage certificate of your ancestor giving evidence of his origin of Annunziata.
- For several requests, fill out as many forms as requests.
- Join the photocopy both sides of your ID card or passport.
- Send all documents by
post to the Association.
The requests are dealt with in 2 steps:
- The requests are given by the President of the Association directly to the persons in charge of archives, who will make the researches in the weeks or month which follow.
- The requests given during the previous journey and for which acts were able to be found are then photographed. You will receive them then by email, once of return in France.
The rate of outcome of the researches depends on the precision of the date of birth and on the name of deposit in Annunziata. They
may not succeed for the following reasons:
- The child was recognized after his deposit in Annunziata and thus changed name (for it, it is necessary to obtain the birth certificate with the city hall of origin, which is not easy).
- The child was not deposited the year of his birth. In that case the year of its deposit in Annunziata does not correspond to the year of birth.
- And probably in other cases...
